The Southern Leyte Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SLEMCOOP) was a spin-off of the Provincial Government Employees Association (PGEA-Southern Leyte) and was registered with the Cooperative Development Authority in 1984 as a close-type Cooperative. It has its Main Office in Maasin City, Southern Leyte that remained a close-type cooperative for 24 years serving only provincial employees of southern Leyte. In 2007 it was converted into an open-type (open to community) coop and opened its first branch in Maasin City. Currently, the Coop has 5 branches and the Main Office with total Assets as of June 2018 at PhP516.08Mn. The 1st Branch and the Main Office are in Maasin City, other branches are in Ormoc City, Hilongos, Sogod, San Juan, and a new Satellite Office in Hinunangan, all in Leyte and Southern Leyte, with Total Membership of almost 10,000 and growing. Like any other cooperative, currently it has 7 Board of Directors (some coops may have up to 15), 3 Audit Committees, 3 Election Committees, 3 Credit Committees, 3 Conciliation & Mediation Committees, 3 Ethics Committees, and the Operations is run by its General Manager together with the Branch Managers and Staff.
